Foundational Knowledge

  1. Define social anxiety disorder, its symptoms, and their effects on daily life

  2. Learn about how anxiety can create a self-reinforcing cycle

  3. Become familiar with basic brain chemistry and neurobiology as it relates to anxiety

  4. Introduce the citta (consciousness) and vritti (constant mind fluctuations) and how they are influenced by past experiences, thoughts, and emotions


Coping Skills

  1. Pranayama (breathwork)

  2. Progressive muscle relaxation

  3. Meditation and mindfulness

  4. Grounding techniques

  5. Practicing kindness and self-compassion

  6. Gentle asana (physical postures)


Observing the Mind

  1. Practice identifying negative thoughts

  2. Identify opportunities to reframe negative self-talk

  3. Challenge assumptions and cognitive distortions

  4. Learn how adherence to the yamas and niyamas can reduce symptoms


Continued Practices

  1. Discuss self-care activities that promote relaxation and stress reduction

  2. Identify triggers and create plans to manage continuing symptoms

  3. Ongoing support of the online community
