Liana on the Mat

Discover inner calm

Meet Liana

Liana is passionate about empowering students through challenging flows and interesting transitions. She finds balance in cultivating peace during meditative gentle and slow flow classes. Her hot stone restorative sessions are a standout, offering profound relaxation through heated stones, supportive props, and essential oil hands-on assists.

Liana earned a Masters in Social Work from the University of Southern California, and weaves effective therapeutic techniques into her yoga classes. Her teaching style combines psychoeducation, breathwork, meditation, yoga philosophy, and physical postures to create conditions for anxiety relief and mental tranquility.

Liana's yoga practice has guided her through several life stages, including pregnancies with her son and daughter, transition into new motherhood, and parenting a child with ADHD. She has firsthand experience with generalized anxiety, social anxiety, and depression, and therefore possesses deep understanding of the complexities of mental health and well-being. As a teen and college student, anxiety dictated much of how Liana approached her day, and she spent a lot of time in avoidance and isolation in an attempt to evade the symptoms. She would avoid gatherings, would not speak during class, and would turn down social invitations. This has unfortunately meant many missed opportunities personally and professionally.

However, through therapy, breathwork, asana, and mindfulness meditation, Liana has learned to decrease her anxiety symptoms and interrupt the cycle of limiting and fearful thoughts. She is eager to share the gifts of breathing and grounding techniques, self-compassion, and cognitive strategies such as identifying negative thoughts and challenging assumptions. When confronted with difficult parenting moments, Liana has turned to yoga philosophy and learned helpful perspectives including acceptance, stepping back to observe behavioral and mental patterns, and resting in the space between a trigger and a reaction.

She now leads several studio classes a week and has become comfortable speaking in front of students. Liana has built safe social spaces for herself, including a Mom and Me weekly hiking group. This group has continued to meet even after the children have enrolled in school, providing stay-at-home moms a place to convene and discuss the challenges of motherhood while out in the calm of nature. The group also holds camping trips throughout the year.
